there's something wrong with it? Seem like a pretty respectable spell for it's cost and casting time...

It's just another awful Elementalist spam skill. Move along.

I'm trying to make an all water elementalist without exhaustion spells & i'm running out of ideas here. Should I take glyph of ele power instead?

Why I imagine people ignore Ice Spear:
  • On 12 Water, it has a rough dps of 12/s.
  • It's an 'if it hits', which is usually a sign of something being highly inaccurate against moving enemies.
  • It has half the normal spell range. As a Ranger I can risk getting closer to the enemy with my shortbow since I have the armour, but an Ele?

Edit: Exhaustion is not that bad with proper control. Don't be afraid to take one for the team, and unleash the odd Maelstrom.

Don't touch Glyph of Elemental Power, it's pretty bad.

For all Water, you want to run something like:

Water Trident
Shard Storm
Ice Spikes
Deep Freeze / Maelstrom
Conjure Frost / Arcane Echo
Water Attunement
Stuff from your secondary

Echo/Trident if you want to play a Trident machinegunner. Otherwise take Conjure Frost and mix wand hits in with Trident, Storm, and Spikes. Maelstrom or Deep Freeze is your heavy hitter - Deep Freeze is a good opener in a free for all, Maelstrom is better in a dias map.

Attunement for energy management, you'll need it.

Don't touch Ice Spear, it's that bad.

I'll just make my obligitory 'Ranger with Tiger's Fury is better' comment and leave it at that.

Peace,
-CxE

Scrap the Arcane Echo Ensign, he already said he'll be a Necro prime.

- Wonder if I just threw more fire to the wood by saying that?

I ran:
Water Trident
Shard Storm
Ice Prison
Maelstrom
Chaos Storm
Shatter Enchantment
Water Attunement
Arcane Echo

I like Trident and Maelstrom, Shard Storm is nothing "Wow!" but it's solid. I didn't try Deep Freeze, it slipped my mind. Ice Prison I can't tell if it was worth it.

I used Ice Prison and Water Trident with my W/E and Ice Prison was a good snare. You just have to be careful about pyros on your team freeing them. If you have no pyros then it is worth it as a snare over shard storm or ice spikes due to the length it lasts. If your team has fire damage, it probably won't be worth it. There are other ways to snare to get aroudn that.

Armor of Mist seemed bugged last beta event whenever I gave it a try it was as if it was never even activated. I think it was cookie cuttered from pacifism the extended follys of it were never removed such as if you attack or if you get damaged you will continue to receive damage when in fact your not suppose to be able to attack or be attacked.

You're thinking of the skill Mist Form.

I don't know why everyone is slamming ice spear.. it's the water line's 0 recharge spell and is pretty balanced out with flare and stone daggers. in fact i prefer it to flare.. half the range but more damage. ice spear does about 26dps to caster armour. but the true usefulness of these spells come when you combo them with ether renewal or channeling.

That's why everyone would be slamming it - because it's just as bad as Flare and Stone Daggers.

Peace,

5 Energy on the ice spear is better spent elsewhere is all. If you want to deal a bit of damage the conjure frost and wand is nearly as effective and requires no energy essentially, doesn't get you interrupted with nasty mesmer spells and allows you to use the 5 energy you've built up on something more useful.
